In thinking about membership, it is also important to know that there are four types of individual members:

Professional Member:
Must hold a master’s degree or higher in counseling or a closely related field from a college or university that was accredited when the degree was awarded by one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Professional Members of ICA may run for and hold ICA-elected offices or be committee chairpersons.

Associate Member:
Any person who works in a closely related mental health field, but does not hold a master’s degree in counseling.

Student Member:
Must be enrolled half-time or more in a counseling or a closely related mental health field.

Student Members cannot run for or hold ICA-elected offices or chair committees (Doctoral Students may apply to do so).

Retired Member:
A retired member is a person who has been an ICA professional member for five consecutive years and who has retired from the counseling profession.

ICA Professional/Associate - $60.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) Thank you for joining ICA as a Professional/Associate Member! Professional/Associate Members are welcome to run for and hold ICA-elected office and chair ICA Committees. They also can receive CE credit for ICA-sponsored training.

ICA Student/Retired - $30.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) Thank you for joining ICA as a Student/Retired Member!

Please Note: In general, Student/Retired Members do not receive full ICA membership benefits, including CE credit for ICA-sponsored training, including the annual conference. Exceptions to this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Student Members generally do not receive full membership benefits, including the ability to hold ICA leadership positions. Further, Students cannot hold ICA leadership positions other than the Graduate Student Representative, per the ICA Bylaws. You may only be a student member for 2-3 years. It is up to each student to update their profiles.
