Affective Neuroscience for Counselors: The science of emotion

Presented by: Dan Bayly, LCPC

Wednesday, November 6th , 2019

1:00 - 5:00pm

Affective Neuroscientists have identified seven distinct affective systems located deep within our brains. Once we understand the root of human emotions as arising from deep within our primitive brain rather than as a cognitive process, we can begin to approach treatment for our clients in new and more effective ways.

- participants identify the 7 affective systems and related emotions
- participants will understand the affective framework for disorders such as ADHD, Autism, and PTSD
-participants will identify ways to intervene on a ""deep"" brain level for their clients
-participants will practice explaining emotion from an affective perspective to help their clients understand emotional processes more deeply.
